Crime up in Peppermint Grove

Jon BassettWestern Suburbs Weekly

POLICE have had a spike of five reports of thefts and damage in wealthy Peppermint Grove during last weekend and this week.

“It’s an unusual surge of criminal activity,” Senior Constable Mark Matthews said.

A Mercedes hatchback and an undisclosed amount of cash were taken from a Johnston Street home in a burglary, an unlocked car was searched on View Street and sunglasses and coins taken from a vehicle, all overnight on January 5.

The following night, an inflatable water ride and kayak were taken from a boatshed at the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, where graffiti was also painted.
