THE man twice voted the world’s most popular wrestler will be in town this month for All Action Wrestling’s Perth Classic at the Claremont Showground.

Rob Van Dam , a former World Wrestling Entertainment and Extreme Championship Wrestling champion, will headline a card that includes Women of Wrestling star Katie Forbes and “the First Lady of Singaporean wrestling”, Alexis Lee.

Local wrestler Andrew “The Shark” Carter, himself a Perth Classic contender, said having the man known as RVD challenging for the title was massive.

“In the past we have had names like Alberto Del Rio, Bobby Lashley, Mr Anderson, Carlito, Chris Masters, Chavo Guerrero, Tommy Dreamer and many more, but Rob Van Dam is on another level,” he said.

“It’s going to be exciting for the fans but also guys like myself who are in the tournament to potentially go toe to toe with one of the best.”

The event at Gate One Theatre will be AAW’s first official action at their new home after moving from Rockingham.

Carter said the new venue deliver bigger and better live shows.

“People always complain that big touring acts never come to Perth and it’s true,” he said.

“The WWE seldom comes to Perth so to have names like Rob Van Dam and Katie Forbes here in Perth is a big deal.

“If people continue to support events and shows like this it means we will be able to continue to work with top level names and bring them out.

“As for the show itself, it’s going to blow people away. Not just from the wrestling side of things but the new setup with three video screens and full production, you wont see anything like it.”

The Perth Classic will be held on August 26.
