Claudia Clyne (9), Hannah Boyle (12) and Rachel Hammond (12) will study at the Melbourne school twice a year and could be selected for a performance position when they are in Year 10.

It will be Rachel’s third year in the program.

The Dalkeith resident said she had been dancing for eight years and her favourite ballet was Romeo and Juliet.

Hannah, of Mt Pleasant, spent two years at the Royal Ballet School in London before moving to Perth.

Claudia joined the Graduate School of Dance last year and said she looked forward to learning new skills and making friends at The Australian Ballet School.

Graduate School of Dance director Dawn Weller said the program would give the girls more confidence.

‘It’s an honour to be accepted plus they get to go to Melbourne and work with a national school,’ Ms Weller said.

The East Perth resident is in Kuala Lumpur this week attending a ballet workshop and will travel to South Africa, her country of birth, next February to judge an international competition.

‘I’ll enjoy meeting the other judges who are very prominent people in our field,’ Ms Weller said.

She started dancing at 2
