Daneechi swimwear is back

Denise S. CahillWestern Suburbs Weekly

DANEECHI swimwear has made a return online.

Gemma Dunthorne bought the business from former owner Denise Price, who announced in August last year that she was selling after more than 30 years.

Ms Dunthorne will run Daneechi as an online shop and has retained popular brands like Jets, Moontide, Finch and Piha while adding labels like Indaia.

The online store also stocks mastectomy brands Femme de la Mer and Genevieve.

The marketing graduate was halfway through a law degree when she decided she wanted to buy a business.

“I started looking at the business classifieds and saw a craft shop which was really exciting because I’m very hands on,” Ms Dunthorne said.

“Then I realised it wasn’t financially viable and I was really upset but the day after I saw Daneechi and I was really lucky to get it.

“It’s got a good following and it’s been an easy transition to go online.”

While Ms Dunthorne is new to small business, she’s very familiar with Daneechi swimwear.

“I grew up in Nedlands and went to Hollywood High School and as a tall girl it was good to find mix and match swimwear at Daneechi,” she said.

“I want Daneechi to be a place that women of all ages and shapes can find something that makes them feel good.”

Ms Dunthorne, who is getting married in January, said she was “living the dream”.

“I get to spend most of my day in activewear and I’ve become more house proud working from home,” she said.
