The Year 9 student group is calling for donations of tampons and pads for Share the Dignity, an organisation that delivers the sanitary products to women who are homeless, at risk of being homeless or staying in domestic violence refuges. Year 9 student Brianna Goldsworthy said women going through hard times were entitled to dignity.
“As Iona students, we know how important it is for women to have a sense of dignity, particularly at such a delicate time, so we as women need to stick together and support those who are not as fortunate as us,” Brianna said.
“As Ionians, we are encouraged to be women of action and service and through Share the Dignity we know we can make a difference to the lives of women experiencing tough times.”

READ NOWCo-ordinating teacher Gemma Beekink said the girls were passionate about the cause and were advocating the message in their home rooms and at college assemblies.
“The donated items will be collected and given to charities and women’s shelters most in need,” Miss Beekink said.
“As a girls’ school, we are in an ideal position to promote this cause and the girls are responding very well, with many donations being received.
“The girls believe that as young women it is their role to support each other.
“No woman should suffer the indignity of choosing between eating or buying sanitary items.”
