FORMER Olympic swimmer Eamon Sullivan will be the first person to swim the Commonwealth Games baton off Cottesloe Beach next Saturday as part of the Rottnest Channel Swim.

The Bib and Tucker co-owner will leave the beach as part of the Queen’s Baton Relay at 5.45am and swim a few hundred metres to his team’s kayak.

The paddler will then transfer the baton to the team’s support boat before Sullivan and his teammates Jaime Bowler, Simon Huitenga and Tamara Bruce swim the final leg of the 19.7km swim with the baton and run it across the finish line.

The Rottnest Channel Swim Association selected the four swimmers to be part of the Queen’s Baton Relay Team because of their long association with the event.
