East Fremantle teen charged over Cottesloe burglary

AN East Fremantle boy (14) is alleged to have entered and burgled an occupied home in Lillian Street, Cottesloe about 11.35am on Wednesday.

“We will allege he entered through an unlocked sliding side door and rummaged through kitchen drawers before trying, and failing, to open a small box on a bedside table in a ground-floor bedroom,” Senior Sergeant Tony Booker said.

The boy allegedly then went upstairs, where he heard a resident flush a toilet, causing him to run out of the house.

“The resident ran outside and confirmed with a neighbour someone had run from the house,” Sgt Booker said.

Cottesloe police called Regional Operations group officers and a canine patrol to conduct a search for the boy in Cottesloe.

However, it was the Perth Transit Authority who identified a boy matching the alleged burglar sitting at the Mosman Park train station.

The boy was charged with burglary and stealing, and was refused bail, before he reappears at Perth Children’s Court at a later date.
