Eat Brighter online quiz launches to help Perth families assess fruit and veg intake

Victoria RificiWestern Suburbs Weekly

PERTH families will be able to determine whether they are getting enough fruit and veg after the launch of an Eat Brighter LiveLighter online quiz on Thursday.

Participating in the fruit and veg quiz will help families assess whether they are meeting the Australian guidelines and eating two fruit and five veg each day.

LiveLighter nutritionist Jenny Atkins said getting the right amount of fruit and veg was a vital element to improving health and diet.

“A lifetime habit of eating fruit and vegetables every day can help prevent constipation, coronary heart disease and some cancers,” Ms Atkins said.

“It can also reduce blood pressure, blood cholesterol levels, improve control of type 2 diabetes and help maintain a healthy weight.”

Ms Atkins said eating different colours of fruits and vegetables each day would maximise nutritional benefits.

There will be also be a LiveLighter stall at Claremont Showgrounds, part of this year’s IGA Perth Royal Show.

Expert nutritionists, who will be stationed at the stall, will urge show goers to eat brighter through advocating the importance of “biting on more yellow, getting keen on green and reaching for red”.

The ‘Vegieman’ mascot and a colourful fruit wall will also be available at the stall, located at the Jubilee Pavilion until Saturday.

The stall will also be giving away free fruit and vegetables to passersby.
