ROGER Federer went through three racquets to dispose of Japan’s Yuichi Sugita 6-4 6-3 at Hopman Cup 2018 this evening.
The world number 2 broke Sugita’s serve to lead 3-2 serving his way to victory in the first set on a love game.
Sugita, who is ranked number 40 in the world, dropped his serve allowing Federer a 2-1 lead in the second set and the 36-year-old veteran never looked in doubt after that.
After the match, Federer said he felt very relaxed on court and was approaching this year’s tournament as he did 2017, “freely”.
However, he revealed he was experimenting with his game and taking chances when he could.
His partner Belinda Bencic is now on court against Naomi Osaka.
