ALEX Pogson has won the Year 9 award and overall Young Scientist Award in the 2015 Science Talent Search.

Competing against other students from years 7 to 12, the Shenton College student said he was “chuffed” to win the award after carrying out research into a sport science experiment.

“I was kind of stunned, I suppose,” Alex said.

“English and science are probably my favourite subjects.”

Principal Michael Morgan said Alex had worked hard on his research as well as completing his regular studies.

“Shenton College has always placed focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), as well as the arts and creative subjects,” Mr Morgan said.

“We need to have a strong focus on science but not at the expense of the arts.”
