FOUR-time NBL champion and Wembley Downs resident Shawn Redhage has been signed with Perry Lakes Hawks for the rest of the 2019 SBL season.

The father of two played two seasons with SBL team Perth Redbacks after retiring from the Perth Wildcats in 2017.

“When I’m not playing basketball, I’m coaching basketball,” he said.

Redhage said he had the itch to get back on the court before he was contacted by the Hawks to play for the remainder of the season.

“Everything was getting busy, I have two little ones at home and I’ve just started a new business called Redhage Basketball,” he said.

“Perry Lakes called and I started to explore that a little bit more and now I’m excited to get back on board.”

Redhage played his first game with the Hawks against Rockingham Flames on May 10.

Although the result did not go to plan, the former Wildcat said his team had the ability to take home a championship.

“The result didn’t go our way but I think from game one to game two we will improve and our goal is to play our best until the end of the season,” he said.

“We’re middle of the pack but we’ve added some new faces.”

Redhage said he had been away from the game for a few months and it was a privilege to get back on the court.

“At this stage I’ll take it season by season, game by game – I’ve played for a long time, I love playing the game,” he said.

“I was talking to guys who have retired, and they’ve said if you can still play and produce out there on the court, you might as well do it”.
