Fourth screen addition to Windsor Cinema

Victoria RificiWestern Suburbs Weekly

THE construction of a fourth cinema screen at Windsor Cinema in Nedlands will begin in early 2020.

Designers of an extension to the Stirling Highway business, managed by Luna Palace, got unanimous approval by Nedlands councillors at a meeting on Tuesday  to build a fourth 67-seat cinema and additional toilets.

EcoLogic Homes will build the extension and business liaison Janine Lindsay said at the meeting there was a perceived notion there would be a shortfall of parking with the addition of the fourth cinema.

“I understand the concern about parking, and we’re trying to find solutions; we have six bus routes that go past the cinema, secure bike racks to be built for cycling and public transport, so we hope people take these options,” she said.

Ms Lindsay said they wanted to avoid building a 60-bay carpark and it sitting empty.

“We have had the same amount of parking we’ve always had but changes in parking policy perceived there to be a shortfall; council has now clearly agreed there is enough parking there,” Ms Lindsay told Western Suburbs Weekly outside the Nedlands council chambers.

“If we couldn’t do the development and keep the cinema running as its running, we could potentially have ended up with an empty cinema and empty carpark.”
