Free parenting package launches online for WA Indigenous families

Victoria RificiWestern Suburbs Weekly

A FREE online resource launched yesterday to assist local health workers in supporting Western Australia’s Indigenous families.

West Perth’s St John of God (SJG) Social Outreach collaborated with the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) to launch The Connected Parenting eLearning package and help resource users focus on the importance of connection, country and culture in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parenting.

The package is based on knowledge and understanding of parent-infant attachment within Aboriginal culture.

Social Outreach Chief executive Bev East said the collaboration between SJG Social Outreach and CAHS to develop the eLearning package was positive.

“In partnership with CAHS we’ve developed a resource that can be widely used to support Indigenous families at home and around the world – together we’re working towards healthier outcomes for families,” she said.

“We know that supporting the parent-child bond lays the foundations during the early years for strong relationships and healthy communities.”
