MT CLAREMONT opera singer Harriet O’Shannessy will launch her new company, Freeze Frame Opera, next month.

Directors, designers, musicians and singers, with a mission to make opera more accessible, affordable and appealing in Perth, will join the talented singer.

O’Shannessy said she wanted to start the company to increase opportunities for opera singers and give people a chance to learn more about the music genre.

“At Freeze Frame Opera we are shaking up the opera experience to make something exciting and new,” she said.

“I want to create more opportunities for WA singers and raise the profile of opera.

“Only a small proportion of people are interested in opera and I think if people come to our show they will realise they know many songs, from movies and popular culture.”

The company will launch their first concert At the Movies, which includes movie soundtracks from The Shawshank Redemption, Pretty Woman and The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, performed by talented WA artists.

O’Shannessy said she was excited to bring opera to the massive and offer something different.

“It’s very exciting. I can’t wait to see it all come together,” she said.

“Our operas will be performed in intimate and interesting venues… and best of all, the operas will be short. We are to opera what Twenty20 is to cricket; the highs and lows, without the boring bits.”

Freeze Frame Opera will launch their concert on November 17 and will run until November 19 from 7.30 to 8.30 at PS Art Space in Fremantle.

Tickets are $30. For more information or to purchase tickets visit www.freezeframeopera.com.
