“At the moment the association has to take their equipment and trailer up there every time there’s an event,” Oceanstyle team member Jim Loughridge (25) said.

The North Fremantle resident will join Mosman Park’s Jess Ngeh (29), Georgie Monro (24) from North Fremantle and South Fremantle’s Daniel Roberts (23) in the attempt to raise about $1000 for the DSA during the 19.7km swim.

The team’s members volunteer at DSA classes at Leighton Beach.

It will be the first time he and Mr Roberts have attempted the crossing to Rottnest Island but North Cottesloe Surf Lifesaving Club members Ms Monro and Ms Ngeh have previously competed in the race.

The team has been training at Port Beach, North Fremantle about three times a week.
