Grant gets a spot in Jamie’s

After problems in securing a liquor licence postponed the launch of his newest venture, Jamie’s Italian opened last week at 140 William Street in the CBD.

Well and truly a fan of the polarising Naked Chef, known for his healthy eating ethos and infamous Essex accent topped off with a lisp, Wembley’s Grant Greyling is privileged to be part of the restaurant’s 100-strong team.

‘I used to watch Oliver on TV after coming home from school and instantly wanted to be able to cook for my family and friends the way he did,’ the 27-year-old sous chef and kitchen manager shared.

‘I’ve always admired his approach to creating meals and the way he promotes the notion that good food should be enjoyed by everyone and can be made by anyone.

‘The way he avoids over-complicating food is also something I channel in my own style of cooking.’

When Grant heard his gastronomic hero was bringing a signature eatery to Perth ” number 35 in the international chain and number two in Australia (the first opened in Sydney in 2012) ” he was eager to get onboard.

‘The menu has an extensive range of beautiful, fresh and simple pastas along with great meat and poultry offerings all sourced from sustainable producers,’ Grant revealed.

‘One of my favourites is the black angel spaghetti ” it’s super simple and a bit out of the ordinary.

I think the restaurant (seating up to 214 patrons) will inject colour into the Perth scene as it offers an amazing array of dishes, awesome drinks and a relaxed but buzzing environment.’

Grant’s fervour for food stems from youth spent at big family gatherings and treasured time in the kitchen with his mum.

He especially revels in working with seafood and meats and creating accompanying sauces.
