Hay Street east residents urge City of Subiaco to include them in proposed meeting

HAY Street east residents have urged the City of Subiaco to include them in a proposed meeting to address issues in the area, during Tuesday’s council meeting

In August, the council discussed working with the Western Suburbs Business Association (WSBA) to convene a meeting with landowners and business people from the east end of Hay Street.

Roberts Road resident Chantelle O’Sullivan said it was not appropriate for council to rely on the WSBA to identify a group of landowners and business interested in the meeting.

“This is a membership-based organisation who largely represents the western suburbs corridors and Cambridge corridors not the ratepayers of Subiaco,” she said.

Ms O’Sullivan, along with York Street resident Jim Davies, called for an open forum meeting in October and suggested invitations be sent to the council’s ratepayer databases and business registers.

They also suggested a pamphlet be sent to tenants within the streets including Hay Street East, Roberts Road, Coghlan Road, York Street, Churchill Avenue and Barker Road between Thomas Street and Axon Road.

Subiaco chief executive Rochelle Lavery told the Western Suburbs Weekly on Wednesday that the Hay Street east matter related to business and landowners not residents.

“We’re specifically talking about Hay Street and specifically talking about businesses and landowners of those businesses,” she said.

“It’s whole separate thing to the elect members motion that’s been put up – it didn’t include residents or look at the wider area.”

Ms Lavery said council would hold the meeting soon.
