Introduced by Diabetes WA in 2011, the Diabetes Education and Self Management for Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed program is now used by more than 97,000 West Australians.

Mr Reiffer said the program not only acknowledged the usual recommendations of healthy eating and exercise, but also addressed individual concerns and questions other programs did not.

‘Even though I have been living with diabetes for many years, I still found the suggestions and tips very useful,’ he said.

‘I learnt a lot about my own condition, which was useful in determining how I could improve the way I manage my diabetes.’

Diabetes WA health services general manager Helen Mitchell said they had received a lot of positive feedback from the program.
