Helping to carry load for grandparent carers

Her mother Giulia and grandmother Marla Toldo said the Princess Margaret Hospital-based non-profit organisation Kalparrin had been an amazing help over the years.

The Commonwealth Bank last month awarded a $10,000 community grant to Kalparrin for upcoming networking and workshop events for grandparents of children with special needs.

Mrs Toldo said she and her husband attended the first grandparent event last year.

‘We’re the only people in our social group who have a disabled grandchild, so to speak to other grandparents was fantastic,’ she said.

‘I used to think we had real problems, but hearing these grandparents who got no payments and were trying to support their grandchildren on a pension’
