Iona Presentation College teacher donates 132 pairs of boots to the homeless

Victoria RificiWestern Suburbs Weekly

WHEN Iona Presentation College teacher Chris Girando went shopping for a pair of boots recently, he ended up coming away with 132 pairs.

After buying a pair of Ridge boots from Mainpeak Cottesloe, Chris decided he wanted to purchase a few more for the homeless.

Mr Girando extended his idea to his colleagues at the college and found an outpouring of support.

“The boots were discounted and great quality, so I thought others may like to join me in buying and donating them to the homeless,” Mr Girando said.

“When I spoke to the manager at Mainpeak, they said they’d love to help out and made the offer to donate 30 pairs to kick things off.

“At this stage we have 132 pairs which we will divide between St Patrick’s Support Centre in Fremantle and RUAH in Northbridge.”

In addition to Chris’s efforts, students at the college held fundraisers and contributed $1213 to the boot appeal.
