Lord of the Flies: PLC putting spin on classic all-boys tale

PRESBYTERIAN Ladies’ College students will take on the classic all-boys play Lord of the Flies in a performance next month.

The college has hired leading stage combat instructor Andy Frazer, who has previously worked with th likes of WA Opera, Black Swan State Theatre Company and Barking Gecko.

College drama teacher Oliver Craze said he thought the female leads might be put off by the male-dominated story but the girls had taken it in their stride.

“They wanted to prove whatever boys could do, they could do it better,” he said.

“Their true grit and determination and energy makes this play extremely interesting to watch, as they draw you in to another world.”

Mr Craze said having Mr Frazer working with the girls was a great experience.

“Over three sessions he has helped choreograph a truly epic scene to finish off the play,” he said.

The girls’ stage combat skills have been complemented by the transformation of the Hazel Day Drama Centre into a desert island plane crash site, with the help of large pieces of a 1960s Sabre fighter jet.

It runs from Friday, November 11, to November 12 from 2pm to 7pm at Hazel Day Drama Centre. Tickets are $15, from www.trybooking.com/nnye.
