MALCOLM Day didn’t know anyone who had battled breast cancer before he became chairman of Breast Cancer Care WA (BCCWA) in 2004.
“Since then, I’ve had family and friends touched by breast cancer and unfortunately some haven’t made it through the journey,” Mr Day said.
The Kings Park resident and his partner Sophie Kerrigan are frocking up for the not-for-profit’s annual Spring Day at the Races that will be supported by Perth fashion labels Jonte, Halo the Label, Keiko Uno and Jessica Bratich.

The makeup artist said she was looking forward to the fashion.
“Everyone goes above and beyond on the day,” she said.
“There’s a lot of bright colours like red and yellow on trend at the moment.
“Perth fashion has really stepped up in terms of racewear,
“Head pieces are made to order and easy to wear.”
Mr Day said Spring Day at the Races was one of BCCWA’s main fundraising events of the year.
“The charity doesn’t get any government funding so we rely on the generosity of the WA public to do what we do,” he said.
“We help over 1000 clients a year providing emotional, practical and financial help to people going through breast cancer and their families.
“We have five counsellors and five breast cancer nurses.”
The couple will follow up Spring Day at the Races by attending Suited for Melbourne Cup, which is Mr Day’s birthday.
