A MAN has been charged over an alleged gold theft in the Kalgoorlie area.

In March 2018, Gold Stealing Detection Unit detectives began an investigation into illegal gold activity within the Kalgoorlie area.

This investigation resulted in a search warrant being executed at a home in Williamstown on March 12 last year.

During the search warrant it is alleged detectives located and seized 598kg of suspected ore material contained in 20 buckets.

Analysis of the ore revealed it contained a high grade gold concentrate indicating the ore had come for a commercial gold mine.

At the time of the ore seizure, the gold concentrate it contained had a gold value of approximately $30,000.

At today’s gold price it is worth approximately $37,500.

The 48-year-old man from Williamstown was charged with possessing stolen or unlawfully obtained property.
