Man dragged by stolen car

A CAR owner was dragged alongside his vehicle while it was being stolen from the garage of his Lutey Avenue, Jolimont, home about 6.45am last Tuesday during a cluster of five burglaries.

‘When the owner went into the garage he saw a man sitting in his car and put it into reverse into the rear laneway,’ Sen Sgt Jade Smith said.

But the victim held on to the car and was flung to the ground.’

The owner was treated at St John of God Subiaco Hospital for cuts and abrasions and his red Hyundai i20 has not been recovered.

Police suspect the thief used a Hyundai stolen in Balga on April 1 ” and found in Jolimont after the i20 was taken ” before four other burglaries were reported in adjacent streets.

About 11.30pm on April 1, a Jersey Street resident heard his rear door smash and saw a man escape over a back fence, before another Jersey Street resident found jewellery boxes in his garage had been searched and two antique watches taken about 90 minutes later.

A woman’s singlet, allen keys and a jewellery box, both of which police suspect came from other burglaries, were found on the resident’s lawn.

At a third Jersey Street home, about 1.45am, a resident reported his car in a garage had been searched, before a vehicle at a nearby Salvado Road home was searched and two T-shirts taken from a clothes line.

The i20 thief was described as olive-skinned, 175cm, curly hair and wearing a grey jumper.
