Man sentenced over birthday rampage in Perth supermarket

Laura PondWestern Suburbs Weekly

A DIANELLA man celebrating his birthday has escaped with a community service order after a “tantrum” in a Scarborough supermarket.

The newly 43-year-old assaulted staff and a security guard at the Coles supermarket at Scarborough Beach just after noon on Monday, October 21.

According to police, the accused was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or both, when he had a tantrum in the store, pulling items off shelves and throwing them around.

The man took the store manager’s glasses and tossed them away before throwing a bag filled with groceries at him, broke an Eftpos machine, threw a magazine at another staff member and hip and shouldered a security guard who intervened.
