Measles alert issued for Perth

A MEASLES alert has been issued for parts of Perth, including its international airport, after an infectious passenger flew to New Zealand.

They flew from Perth to Auckland on Air New Zealand flight NZ176 on September 15, and unvaccinated people who were around the passenger could be at risk, health authorities say.

The passenger also visited the Perth suburbs of Cannington, Rockingham, Baldivis and West Perth between September 10 and 14.

Measles symptoms – coughing, a runny nose and sore eyes, followed by a rash – usually begin about 10 days after exposure to the virus, but it can sometimes take up to 18 days before people feel unwell.
