IT WAS not your usual dress-up day at MLC on Friday, as junior school students dressed up in men’s attire for the day.

A fundraising initiative by the Year 4 students, girls dressed up as junior school dean Michael Brown to raise money for the school’s new Junior Years building.

“This is the first time they’ve done this,” Mr Brown said.

“I feel totally honoured, but it’s pretty scary.

“It’s like my worst nightmare looking at 400 versions of me!”

Student Indiara Karthigasu said Mr Brown was an easy choice.

“We chose Mr Brown because he’s an icon at MLC,” she said.

“I’ve also dressed up with a brown bow tie and we’re selling brownies – they’re delicious.”

Mr Brown has also taken up a new hobby to help reach the College’s fundraising target of $100,000.

“Some of the students are also dressed up as hikers, as I am walking the Bibbulmun Track this year to raise funds.

“I’ve done 400km so far, so I’m just over one- third of the way through.”

The new building, which will be for pre-kindy to Year 2 students, will be completed by early next year. It will also include an early learning centre, which will be open to children from six months old.
