FOUR junior creatives have been rewarded for their entries in the 2017 Shaun Tan Award for Young Artists.

Rosalie Primary School’s Cameron Bills, Scotch College’s Hamish Byass, Methodist Ladies’ College student Evelyn Carapetis and Richard Hu from West Perth’s Du Fn Academy of Fine Arts were presented awards by Mr Tan himself.

The internationally recognised artist was in town to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the awards named in his honour.

Fourteen youngsters were presented awards.

Subiaco Mayor Heather Henderson said the City was proud to run the awards, with quality entries streaming in from across Perth.

“Having Shaun here to present the awards to our young artists is the icing on the cake,” she said.

The 2017 award finalists, aged six to sixteen, submitted portraits, animals, abstract pieces and still-life works.

More than 1200 entries were submitted.
