“The handbag was hidden in the vehicle’s footwell, but a four-wheel drive drove up, and out got two dark-skinned males,” Senior Sergeant Tony Booker said.

“They smashed the Lexus’ drivers-side window and took the bag.”

The Lexus is registered to a Peppermint Grove address.

The value of the stolen property, including several sunglasses, an iPad, two Samsung mobile telephones, perfume, credit cards and a gold watch, was estimated at $9628.

The thieves’ vehicle was described as a green Ford Territory with grey trimming on its lower sides.
