Mosmon Park charity event guests given more time to pay fines for illegal parking

GUESTS at a charity event have more time to pay their fines of $600 for allegedly parking illegally in Saunders Street, Mosman Park on December 8.

At last month’s meeting, a council report said a resident asked the council the previous day that one-hour limits be lifted for the event at her house in the street.

The report said the resident claimed the council had agreed to lift the time limit for another event on November 12 last year, but that the council claimed there was no record of the change last month.

Subsequent talks between council staff and the resident attempted to find a solution for December 8 request, including alternative parking, but on the day, rangers allegedly found vehicles parked illegally in the street.

The report said they issued eight fines after failing to get a response to move the cars in 20 minutes, and the street was also needed for builders’ parking.

Guests paid two of the fines but there have been no appeals about the rest.

Councillors agreed to have the payment deadline extended until March 14, and will review parking arrangements in the street where two subsequent charity events organised alternative parking and ride-sharing for guests.
