National Volunteer Week: Nedlands gets valuable help from family trio

Denise S. CahillWestern Suburbs Weekly

Abhita and her 18-year-old daughters have been volunteering with the Nedlands Library for four years but will return to the US after helping the library modernise its records, preserving local history.

While the trio brought organisational skills to the volunteer positions, they also gained valuable experience.

Abhita said she would recommend volunteering in areas where people had a natural interest and an environment where they felt comfortable.

“We all had such a feeling of accomplishment helping the Local Studies collection,” she said. “We are proud that we could do something that contributes to future generations’ understanding of local history.”
