No planned increase to rates under Town of Cambridge 2019/20 budget

TOWN of Cambridge has supported a 2019/20 budget with a zero increase in rates.

Councillors agreed at a meeting on Tuesday to adopt the 2019/20 budget in principle and then send it out for public comment for two weeks from Fridayto July 12 before adopting it.

The Town will not increase rates for a third year in a row, after a 0.9 per cent decrease in 2016/17 and a 0 per cent increase in 2017/2018 in general rates.

A total of $14.5 million will be spent on the Town’s capital works with $7.8 million earmarked for asset renewal, $3.8 on asset upgrades and enhancements and $3 million allocated for new works.

The Town plans to spend $1.6 million to create the Lake Monger Community Shed, $765,000 for renewal of the Wembley Gold Course and $750,000 for renewal of air-conditioning at the Cambridge Library and Boulevard Centre.

The Town will also spend $1.2 million on court conversion and lighting installation at Perth Netball Association’s court space.
