Staff WriterWestern Suburbs Weekly

AN earthquake of 4.8 magnitude struck the Pilbara early this morning but there’s no tsunami threat, agencies have confirmed.

Geoscience Australia and the Bureau of Meteorology said there were reports of an earthquake at about 3.11am local time.

The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre confirmed reports of an earthquake felt near the Pilbara.

But based on the magnitude and location of the earthquake, the JATWC has assessed that there is no tsunami threat.
