Old Swanbourne Hospital site could become modern park

Jessica WarrinerWestern Suburbs Weekly

MORE change is on its way for the old Swanbourne Hospital site with a modern park proposed for the area.

Public open space was created after the area was subdivided and Aegis Aged Care undertook a $30 million restoration on Montgomery House to create an 80-resident facility.

The City of Nedlands is looking for feedback on the project as well as the name of the park, to be located west of the site on St Johns Boulevard, Mt Claremont.

Mayor Max Hipkins said a draft concept plan had been developed, looking at the natural and built environment, future art work, water quality and conservation, amenity, accessibility and potential community uses.

“This project has been developed to align with similar sized parks while addressing current and future management of the area,” he said.

“This is an ideal opportunity to enhance this area of public space to make it an attractive green area, integrating existing trees and new native plantings, as well as green turf and a playground area.”
