OzHarvest ready to feed homeless this winter

WINTER is a particularly busy time for food rescue not-for-profit OzHarvest because more homeless people are seeking warmth and food.

OzHarvest state manager Jennifer Keen said people were coming off the street and actively seeking help in the cold weather.

“Just like all of us are looking for warmth and security, so are they so there’s more requests,” she said.

Community News has joined the Feed WA Appeal, a national fundraiser that uses donations to provide grants to not-for-profits that help people in your neighbourhood.

Just 50 cents can provide a meal for someone in need.

Ms Keen said the challenge for OzHarvest was they never knew what sort of food they would collect or how much.

“We also want to ensure we are providing hardy, nutritious food to those in need,” she said.

OzHarvest has launched its Winter Food Drive encouraging people to collect non-perishable food items and create hampers for OzHarvest to distribute to disadvantaged men, women and children.
