OVER the past five years, Subiaco’s annual foodie festival UnWined WA has matured just like a fine wine, says television and radio personality Verity James.
James will host the Restaurant Subiaco theatre at the event this weekend, featuring local chefs from Bistro des Artistes, Meeka, Witch’s Cauldron, Subiaco Hotel, Bistro Felix and Funtastico.
“Visitors in the first year were around 1800, and this year around 5000 are expected to attend,” she said.
“UnWined 2015 will have even more exhibitors and a fantastic list of street food vendors on site.
“Eight of the nine local wine regions are represented, with some amazing new wines to try.
“The organisers have also introduced half-glass sales to allow more wines to be enjoyed without overindulging.”
Blair Hill from Wines of WA will present education sessions on white varietals for summer, natural wine and WA reds.
James said there would be a fantastic “picnic in the park” vibe with picnic benches, rugs and cushions for visitors to put their feet up and relax.
“There will be great live music from Tahlia Beeson and the Proof Trio to enjoy, and of course only WA wine on show – so it’s very local,” she said.
“People can also buy and order wines to store in a wine locker on site throughout the day.
“My picks would be to try the Arneis from Vineyard 28 and Grenache from Faber Vineyards, followed by a visit to the new Pasta Truck.”
