Perth bus drivers to offer free rides as part of pay dispute

Staff WriterWestern Suburbs Weekly

PERTH bus drivers are planning to save commuters some cash by offering free rides for the rest of the week as part of their fight for better conditions.

Drivers won’t be taking cash fares or encouraging commuters to tag on.

The action applies to drivers operating cat buses and general services in Fremantle, Mandurah, Joondalup and Rockingham.

Transdev employs about 1000 of the 2500 bus drivers around the metropolitan area and operates 107 bus routes.

Drivers are asking for a three per cent pay rise annually, a superannuation boost and an extra week of annual leave.

They have walked off the job previously this month as part of strike action.

Transperth is warning passengers that not all services will be free and said they will still need a ticket or to tag on when catching the train.

The following bus routes are expected to be affected.
