Perth fashion label ae’lkemi closes doors after 21 years

PERTH born fashion label ae’lkemi has closed its doors after 21 years in the fashion industry.

Ae’lkemi founder and designer Alvin Fernandez announced he would discontinue his brand on Instagram yesterday.

“Today with a glimpse of sadness and yet an air of excitement at the future, I would like to announce the closure of ae’lkemi,” wrote Fernandez to his 21,000 Instagram followers.

“To my loyal family, friends and valued clients – I have shared many laughs and my heart is full from all the support you have given me.

The Mt Hawthorn resident started his label in 1998 and made his international runway debut in Milan in 2003.

Fernandez created a new collection, which he showcased at Perth Fashion Festival in 2018, to commemorate 20 years of his label.
