PERTH Modern School graduate Orla Latawski has been named one of WA’s brightest high school graduates after receiving the Julia Gillard Women in Leadership Scholarship.

The 18-year-old Attadale resident was awarded the scholarship at a ceremony held at Curtin University last night.

The scholarship will provide the full cost of her undergraduate course fees, a $2000 cash fee each year, and a one-off $6000 grant for an international study experience.

Curtin University vice chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said the scholarship would support academically gifted female students, like Orla, to develop themselves as a leader in their chosen field.

“Orla has displayed an outstanding academic record, busy extra-curricular calendar and a commitment to serving her community through many hours of volunteering,” she said.

Orla said she was looking forward to starting a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Psychology double degree at Curtin University.

“It is a great honour to have received the Julia Gillard Women in Leadership Scholarship after growing up watching the Former Prime Minister and being inspired to hopefully one day follow in her footsteps,” she said.
