Mr Bouyahia said Station Street Market stallholders felt betrayed that management continued to rent out shop space and some stallholders felt false hope that the markets might stay open.
It was just them buying time to generate more revenue; this is what happens when a market is privately owned, he said.
I think it comes down to community apathy; people were happy to like the Facebook page or sign the petition, but there was no follow-up or real action.
There is a possible alternative (Markets on Rokeby) that some stallholders could move to. But markets in Subiaco will never be the same again.
Karutz Smallgoods owner Rodney Bates said he and fellow stallholders were gradually coming to terms with the news that Station Street Markets would definitely close. No-one is happy, but if its over then its over, Mr Bates said.
