Police charge women, girls with bottleshop thefts

ALLEGED damage at Cottesloe Liquorland by a girl gang member led to four arrests of young women allegedly stealing from bottleshops across Perth.

The latest incident occurred about 7.30pm on Monday.

“It will be alleged she banged on the door, threatening to get in, spat on the staff member’s car, kicked its rear bumper and a rear panel,” Senior Constable Mark Matthews said.

Since Easter, the bottleshop on Stirling Highway and the nearby Albion Hotel drive-through have been targeted by girls, one reported to be 11, young women and boys stealing alcohol.

It will be alleged the spree included bottleshops in Mosman Park, Nedlands, Subiaco, Mount Hawthorn, Belmont and Bentley.

Alcohol, both pre-mixed drinks and spirits, worth more than $2000 was stolen in the Cottesloe raids.

Constable Matthews said it was suspected girls and others had been staying at a Gibbon Street, Mosman Park house, and they used the train lines to get to bottleshops which they raided since Easter Saturday.

Fremantle-based police pounced minutes after the alleged attempted raid on Liquorland, and caught three young women, a girl and a female juvenile at Cottesloe train station.

A Geraldton woman (20) charged with causing damage at Liquorland is bailed to reappear at Perth Magistrates Court on June 20.

A Perth woman (19) faces breach of bail and stealing charges in court at a later date from thefts at bottleshops in Belmont on February 14 and April 8, the Albion Hotel on April 22 and Liquor Barons Mosman Park on April 29.

A St James girl (17) is bailed to appear in court on June 10 on charges of stealing from the Albion on April 20 and 29, BWS Subiaco on April 30 and May 2, BWS Nedlands on April 26, Coles Express Bentley on April 30 and BWS Mount Hawthorn on May 6.

A St James woman (18) is bailed until June 10 on stealing charges from he Albion on April 29, BWS Subiaco on April 30, Coles Express Bentley on April 30, BWS Subiaco on May 7, and BWS Mount Hawthorn on May 6.

The female juvenile was released without charge.
