Police dig in to alleged plant thefts from gardens and parks in Cambridge

Jon BassettWestern Suburbs Weekly

MORE investigations may determine if a Leederville man (55) who allegedly stole 32 pot plants is a serial thief of roadside and garden vegetation in the Town of Cambridge.

“Town of Cambridge rangers have been looking for a person taking plants for some time,” Senior Sergeant Peter Gilmour said.

It will be alleged the 32 pot plants were taken from a home in Salvado Road, Wembley about 2am last Wednesday.

Sgt Gilmour said one of his patrols noticed a man loading a vehicle on the side of the road, before a resident appeared and said the plants were missing from his nearby home.

“It will be alleged a further inspection of the vehicle found a large assortment of native plants from a nearby council reserve,” Sgt Gilmour said.

The man was charged with stealing, possession of stolen property and damaging and taking flora from a designated public area.

He was bailed to reappear at Perth Magistrates Court on October 2.
