Police hunting machete-wielding robbers near Scarborough

A PAIR of armed robbers wielded a machete after tackling a Bassendean international student to the ground on West Coast Highway, City Beach before they escaped towards Scarborough about 2pm on July 23.

“One offender has a large machete, which appeared to be about 30cm with a black blade with white text on it, which he waved around in his right hand,” Senior Sergeant Tony Booker said.

The student (32) was walking south on a bike path beside the highway when the robbers approached from his rear, knocking him to the ground from behind.

Sgt Booker said the men held the man down with force.

“One said ‘Don’t look at me’,” Sgt Booker said.

The student’s wallet, mobile telephone and $56 was taken, before his attackers ran back towards Scarborough.

The student was uninjured, and called police from a nearby house.

An attacker was described as a Caucasian with pale skin, about 25 and 175cm-180cm, and wore a grey beanie, black hooded jumper and blue jeans.

His accomplice was described as Caucasian with pale skin, about 175cm, light blonde hair, clean shaven, and wore a grey hooded top with orange writing.
