Police investigating link between Claremont, Nedlands commercial burglaries

Jon BassettWestern Suburbs Weekly

BURGLARS cased shops in Old Theatre Lane in Claremont before a string of four local break-ins took place overnight on May 1.

Detective Sergeant Paul Vojkovich said CCTV footage showed the burglars “walking up and down through the lane, casing the place”.

He said because of the times and locations of the offences, police suspected the two burglaries in the lane and another in nearby Avion Way between 3.40am and 4.10am were linked to a fourth at the Nedlands Bowling Club just before 3.40am.

“At the bowling club there were two males, and one was handling a crowbar,” he said.

The crowbars were used to open drawers at the club, but nothing was reported stolen.

In the lane, nothing was taken from Claremont Cruise and Travel and a nearby office after both were entered.

However, the burglars walked away with $2000 cash when they took a cash drawer at the shop on Avion Lane.

Det Sgt Vojkovich said the burglars could have parked a car nearby, and anyone who observed suspicious activity in the area should report it to Crime Stoppers.
