POLICE say a bike thief rode off with their patrol bicycle while three officers arrested another “violent” man during a disturbance in the Murray Street Mall, about 5.20pm last Tuesday.

“During this detainment, a male offender has stolen a police bicycle that was parked approximately 10m away and rode off towards the Wellington Street entrance of the Perth train station,” Senior Sergeant Craig Davis said

Members of the public alerted police to the man on the $2000 bike, and City of Perth CCTV followed the man to near McIver train station.

“With the help of a lady, who sighted this man, shortly afterwards police located the bicycle abandoned near the entrance to the station,” Sgt Davis said.

A search found bicycle parts at nearby Wellington Square and Wittenoom Street in East Perth.

The man arrested at the mall was charged for the alleged disturbance, and CCTV of the other man has been released.
