Police pepper-spray dog

Officers stopped a white BMW on Powis Street about 1.30am, driven by a woman (45) with a male passenger (41), and allegedly discovered a gun inside.

‘On hearing he would be arrested, the man ran away from the car and police and was recaptured 150 metres down the road,’ Senior Sergeant Kate Vivian said.

The dog followed the man and bit one of the officers after the male passenger allegedly encouraged the dog to attack.

The staffordshire bull terrier was unharmed and retreated from the officers.

Police say the car was stopped on suspicion of previous offences, including the man allegedly being armed with a knife during a road rage incident in Kwinana in April.

It will be alleged a search of the BMW found a small quantity of crystal methamphetamine in the woman’s handbag, a glass smoking device under the driver’s seat, a camouflage face mask and a cut-down .22 rifle with a magazine taped to its side in the spare wheel well of the boot.

It will be alleged a later search of the pair’s Herdsman Parade in Wembley unit uncovered 16 rounds of .22 ammunition, stolen credit and fuel cards, a switchblade knife, a second face mask and a false motorbike numberplate.

The man appeared in court last Thursday and was remanded in custody to reappear at Perth Magistrates Court on October 16, when he will face charges of going armed in public, escaping legal custody and unlawful possession of the ammunition and bank cards.

Firearms charges may also be laid.

The woman will be summonsed to face driving, firearms and drugs charges at a later date.
