Pool addition creates opportunities

Laura PondWestern Suburbs Weekly

AN addition to Scarborough Beach Pool aims to provide more opportunities for swimmers.

Divers this month installed the Swim Wall, an inflatable rigid structure, to the bottom of the 50m lap pool.

The permanent fixture allows the pool to be reconfigured, including creating two 25m pools, a combination of 50m and 25m lanes or a full size water polo field while retaining swimming lanes.

City of Stirling infrastructure director Michael Littleton said it would enable the City to manage capacity demands at the pool more efficiently.

“The swim wall adds flexibility to the venue by catering for a mix of aquatic activities both simultaneously and independently, including recreational and lap swimming, pool inflatables, learn to swim programs and sports like water polo,” he said.

“We understand 50m lap swimming is important to the community, and we do not intend to reduce 50m swimming lanes by having the Swim Wall in operation during peak times at Scarborough Beach Pool.”

Details on when the wall will be used will be advertised via the City’s website.
