STEVE and Jane Hitchings’ children’s meals to go were so popular with parents, they repeatedly got requests for family-sized servings.
The chefs from Swanbourne saw a business opportunity, expanded their range and Poppet’s Pantry was born.
The four-year-old North Fremantle business has expanded to offer catering and its delivery service has recently been boosted from two to four zones to take in northern and eastern suburbs, along with the western suburbs.

“I’d always wanted to do this type of business because it’s quite big in England,” Mr Hitchings, who is from Kent in the UK, said.
“The pre-prepared meals concept is getting big; more and more people are doing it.”
Mrs Hitchings said they offered a menu of pre-prepared family-style meals and rarely changed the choices because they were popular with clients.
She said people liked that the meals were preservative and sugar-free and they catered for gluten and dairy-free clients.
A team of chefs use the freshest of ingredients sourced from trusted local suppliers to prepare the frozen meals and deliver them to straight to customers’ doors.
The couple, who now have two children, met when Mr Hitchings was a private chef on one of Richard Branson’s private islands and his future wife was cooking on the island next door.
The name came from a nickname Mrs Hitchings was given by her niece.
“I was called Janey Poppet by my niece,” she said.
All meals come in single, two or four-serve sizes.
Once prepared, each meal is snap frozen to ensure all of the favour, goodness and nutrients is locked in for maximum enjoyment.
Meals can be oven or microwave heated in a matter of minutes and served straight to the table for a hassle free meal.
