KAY Lane continues to reap the rewards of her commitment to women’s golf after 50 years.
The City Beach 80-year-old is nominated for the Service to Sport Award – May Campbell Medal at the RAC Sports Awards on February 13.
Mrs Lane has been recognised for her involvement in golf administration at club, state and national level over nearly five decades and establishment of the junior girls golf program in WA, which was later adopted by other states.
But her greatest feelings of achievement come from seeing women that were part of the program as girls flourish in golf today.
“It’s just a joy to see the girls and how they loved it so much,” she said.
“I can see them now even throughout the golf industry.
“I see these girls everywhere, it’s quite amazing.”
Mrs Lane followed her husband into golf at Cottesloe Golf Club and immediately loved it.
She continues to play regularly and cannot imagine her life without the sport, and is just as passionate about encouraging young people and females to join.
“I think the members have to be more inclusive; I think the future is the young people.”
