Redeveloped Bold Park aquatic centre to open on Saturday

It was closed just over a year ago for redevelopment and Town of Cambridge Mayor Keri Shannon said the new facility was worth the wait.

“Bold Park Aquatic has been a favourite swimming hole for Cambridge residents for many years and having seen first-hand the new centre I have no doubt it will remain as one of the Town’s most popular facilities for many years to come,” she said.

“I know many residents have been eagerly awaiting the opening and I can assure them the wait will be worth it.

“The new Bold Park Aquatic is an outstanding facility which I’m sure the community will love and the Town is rightfully very proud of.”

The centre includes a 50m 10-lane outdoor heated pool with ramp entry, a semi-enclosed 20m four-lane leisure pool with beach entry, accessible change rooms, an adventure playground, half-court basketball area, barbecues, shaded seating and a new café.

Cambridge chief executive Jason Buckley said he was particularly proud of the entry to the centre.

“Designed by architect Kim Donovan, the huge frame is a nostalgic take on the screen of the old Skyline Drive-In that years ago operated next door to the aquatic centre, and the stainless steel construction frames and reflects the Bold Park bushland,” Mr Buckley said.

“The opening of the $12.25m Bold Park Aquatic brings to a close years of planning, design and construction works that has produced this fantastic new facility.”
